Just thought id add this worked for me too matlab r2015b, arch linux, nouveau drivers. Ive just tried to uninstall it and reinstall steam from the ubuntu repos. Problem was some mesa not proprietary libs were still in system after nvidia drivers installation and i needed to replace them by nvidia great blob.
